Academic Goal: By October 2021, 100% of our students will demonstrate a minimum of one year's growth and 80% of our student body will reach proficiency or above in all subject areas using MAP, SLO, state and local assessments. Climate/Conditions Goal: By October 2021, 100% of Osnaburg Local School District staff, in partnership with students, families, and community organizations will cultivate a safe, supportive, and inclusive school climate that nurtures the development of the whole child as measured by district collected non-academic indicators. Loaner Computer Available We understand that there are some students that do not have a device (such as a computer, phone, or tablet) to do their homework while we are away from school. Those students who are in need will be able to borrow a computer from the school. Unfortunately we do not have enough for all students in the district, but we want to help those that are in need. You have two options on how to contact us to let us know you need a computer. 1) Fill out the google form by clicking here . This will give us the information we need to get a computer ready for your student. 2) Call Maria Mayle at 330-488-0334 to speak with her about getting a computer. Please leave a message if no one answers. **When you pick up the computer, you will need to fill out a computer borrower responsibility form. Internet Access at Home There a few options that the district has been made aware of when it comes to internet connectivity. Spectrum is offering free home internet to students during this crisis. You can contact Spectrum at 1-844-488-8395. The other option is contacting your cell phone carrier. Many of the carriers are offering free unlimited data to students for their phones. This will allow a student to use their phone as a hot spot to connect a computer so that homework can be done for school. Hopefully this will cover most connectivity issues. Please fell free to also use the WI-FI available by parking at the football stadium or Smith gym as well. Google Learning We understand that many teachers will be using Google Meet to have class over the next few weeks. Utilizing STEM at all Building Levels Osnaburg Local Schools has implemented STEM education at all building levels. STEM focuses on subject-specific learning, along with helping to foster inquiring minds, logical reasoning, and collaborative skills. East Canton’s STEM implementation grew from individual courses that focused on problem-based learning to a school-wide focus and culture of innovation. Since implementation, 100% of teachers have been trained in problem-based learning, which enhances the STEM practices at East Canton High. A Focus on Problem Based Learning... Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching method in which complex real-world problems are used as the vehicle to promote student learning of concepts and principles as opposed to direct presentation of facts and concepts. In addition to course content, PBL can promote the development of critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills. It can also provide opportunities for working in groups, finding and evaluating research materials, and life-long learning (Duch et al, 2001). STEM Students Doe v. Step Up To Quality is a five-star quality rating and improvement system that recognizes and promotes learning and development programs that meet quality program standards that exceed regulations. Program standards are based on national research identifying standards which lead to improved outcomes for children. East Canton Elementary STEM education is active and focuses on a student-centered learning environment. Students engage in questioning, problem solving, collaboration, and hands-on activities while they address real life issues. The elementary has also implemented STEM sections in the 4th and 5th grade levels. East Canton Elementary utilizes personalized education and building wide intervention. East Canton Middle School East Canton Middle School was awarded the Momentum Award for the third straight year.
